Centrifugal Pump Impeller Concept

2021Illustrative archive dateMechanical design study

Archive date pending confirmation. This public example was created for the portfolio in 2026.

Project Overview

Objective

Develop a recognizable impeller concept with explicit overall dimensions and identify the hydraulic and mechanical inputs needed before performance assessment.

Role & Responsibilities

Independent portfolio study focused on geometry, documented inputs, and engineering review.

  • Set the impeller envelope, hub, eye region, and number of vanes.
  • Create repeated curved-vane geometry with consistent thickness.
  • Inspect the inlet region, outlet passages, and shaft interface.

Model Assumptions

Representative 90 mm outer diameter, six curved vanes, and a central inlet-eye region. Blade shape and thickness are illustrative; no pump duty point or fluid performance is specified.

Design Workflow

  1. Set the impeller envelope, hub, eye region, and number of vanes.
  2. Create repeated curved-vane geometry with consistent thickness.
  3. Inspect the inlet region, outlet passages, and shaft interface.
  4. Identify flow rate, head, speed, fluid, and cavitation requirements.
  5. Plan hydraulic, structural, balance, and manufacturing checks.

Engineering Checks

Geometry inspection does not determine head, efficiency, cavitation margin, or mechanical integrity. Those require a defined duty, validated models, and suitable evidence.

Study Limitations

New geometric study with an illustrative 2021 archive label. No pump efficiency, tested duty, CFD result, or manufactured impeller is claimed.
