Compact Reduction Gearbox
Project Overview
Objective
Explore how a gear pair, supported shafts, bearings, and housing interfaces fit together in a maintainable reduction gearbox concept.
Role & Responsibilities
Independent portfolio study focused on geometry, documented inputs, and engineering review.
- Set the transmission ratio and locate input and output shafts.
- Build the gears and arrange the bearing supports.
- Define housing walls and maintenance access around the moving components.
Engineering Features

- Gear ratio
- 2:1
- Shaft centre distance
- 60 mm
- Gear face width
- 12 mm
- Housing
- Representative open case

Source & Engineering Notes
Model Assumptions
One spur-gear reduction stage with nominal 60 mm shaft-centre spacing. Housing, bearing rings, shoulders, and fasteners are simplified CAD representations; no rated motor or load is assigned.
Design Workflow
- Set the transmission ratio and locate input and output shafts.
- Build the gears and arrange the bearing supports.
- Define housing walls and maintenance access around the moving components.
- Review assembly order, shaft clearances, and component interfaces.
- Document the outstanding load, tolerance, and lubrication requirements.
Engineering Checks
Inspect geometric clearances and component alignment. A real gearbox also requires verified bearing life, tooth loading, shaft strength, fits, heat rejection, and lubrication design.
Study Limitations
New 2026 concept assembly. No manufactured gearbox, durability test, or professional gearbox commission is claimed.
